In his note he wrote:
"I interviewed Jerry Garcia in 1990 for a book I was writing about Virtual Reality. I interviewed Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir in 1991 for an article for Interview magazine.

The interview with Garcia was part of my research for my 1991 book, “Virtual Reality.” The interview with Garcia and Weir started because Interview magazine was doing a “Family” issue and some editor thought it would be a fun idea to interview the Grateful Dead. When they contacted the Dead, Jerry Garcia said he’d do the interview if Howard Rheingold was the interviewer. ;-) Both interviews took place at the old Grateful Dead offices in San Rafael, CA. The interview with Garcia and Weir was April 16, 1991, and the interview with Jerry Garcia was June 27, 1990. During the Garcia interview, Bear (Owsley Stanley) entered the room and the conversation."
